The Overseas Koreans Agency (OKA), led by Director Lee Sang-deok, in collaboration with the Overseas Koreans Cooperation Center (OKOCC), directed by Kim Young-geun, hosted the 2024 8th Next-Generation Koreans Homeland Invitation Program. On January 16, 188 Korean university and graduate students from 31 countries engaged in a cultural exchange with elder members of the Busan Sakhalin Permanent Returnees Association.

During their visit to Busan, the students participated in activities with the Sakhalin returnees, including traditional crafts such as making plaster air fresheners and Korean masks, as well as playing traditional instruments. As a gesture of appreciation, the students presented scarves as gifts.

The program, which began on January 14, spans seven days and includes activities such as:

  • Experiencing the history and culture of Busan, a city known for its maritime and scientific advancements,
  • Exploring Seoul’s historical and cultural sites as well as its modern economic developments,
  • Participating in a Hanbok Festival to learn about Korean etiquette and traditions, and
  • Undertaking a Global Leadership Development Program focusing on climate change and sustainable citizen action projects.

The program will conclude with a closing ceremony on January 20 at the Grand Hyatt Incheon Hotel, marking the end of a meaningful week that strengthened the students' connection to their heritage.
