The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) held a closing event for the 6th cohort of its “KOICA Global Supporters WeKO” program on December 6 at its headquarters in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. The event, titled the “2030 Global ODA Awards,” celebrated the achievements of the past five months and was met with great enthusiasm.

The event adopted a unique concept, set in the year 2030, marking the end of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants were "invited" to the awards ceremony and tasked with tackling global challenges currently facing humanity. Through an engaging narrative, they collaborated to identify the mysterious figure, "Ko Ika," said to hold the keys to solving these issues.

This year, 130 creators participated in the WeKO 6th cohort, selected from a competitive pool of applicants with a final acceptance rate of 7:1. For the global division, the competition was even fiercer, with a 13:1 acceptance rate from applicants across 25 countries. The team consisted of 99 members from the domestic division, including university students and other local participants, and 31 members from the global division, representing both foreign residents in Korea and abroad.

The WeKO 6th cohort focused on addressing pressing global issues such as poverty, inequality, war, and climate change. Over five months, from August to December, participants created a total of 4,844 pieces of content, including short-form videos and infographics, to make the SDGs more relatable and accessible to young audiences. These multilingual efforts garnered impressive engagement, with 47.59 million cumulative impressions and over 31.05 million interactions worldwide.

The WeKO program exemplifies KOICA’s commitment to raising awareness of global development challenges and engaging young people in creative and impactful ways.
