Yong Ho-seong, First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST), attended the opening ceremony of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art’s traveling exhibition in Venice, “For Everything That Breathes on This Land: Jung Young-sun and Collaborators,” on May 7 (local time). The event commemorated the "2024–2025 Korea-Italy Mutual Cultural Exchange Year," and Vice Minister Yong expressed appreciation to artists and organizers in attendance.
This special exhibition is hosted by the San Marco Art Center as part of its grand opening celebration. Originally constructed in the 16th century, the center is a newly repurposed exhibition space designed by David Chipperfield, the 2023 Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate, who transformed the historical Procuratie, once the administrative offices of Venice. Chipperfield also participated in the exhibition as a collaborator.
Vice Minister Yong remarked, “This exhibition showcases how physical elements have functioned within society through collaboration among various artists. It’s a chance to reflect on how physical space influences our lives.” He added, “I hope this exhibition brings the people of Korea and Italy closer through art, and I sincerely thank all participating artists.”
Additionally, Vice Minister Yong plans to attend the opening of the Korean Pavilion at the 19th Venice Biennale of Architecture on May 9 (local time), where he will meet with the artistic director and participating architects, exploring ways to further support the global presence of outstanding Korean architects.
