Federation of Korean Associations in Europe Hosts 8th Open Don Quixote International Taekwondo, Kendo, and Hapkido Championships

The Federation of Korean Associations in Europe (President Kim Young-ki) successfully hosted the "8th Open Don Quixote International Taekwondo (Poomsae & Sparring), Kendo, and Hapkido Championships" from November 15 to 17 at the Ciudad Real Santa María Sports Hall in Madrid, Spain. This event commemorated the 74th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Spain and was held with the approval of the Spanish Taekwondo Federation. Over 1,300 participants from around the world competed in this prestigious event.

Participants represented countries such as Spain, India, Nepal, Nigeria, Cuba, Denmark, Morocco, Mexico, Ukraine, and Colombia, fostering cultural and sports exchanges among international athletes.

Kim Young-ki, President of the Federation, emphasized ongoing efforts to expand Taekwondo’s official categories to nine for the 2028 LA Olympics and to promote the martial art on a global scale.

During the event, Kim presented plaques of appreciation to key figures, including Lim Soo-suk, the Korean Ambassador to Spain; the Mayor of Madrid; the Chair of the City Council; and regional government officials, expressing gratitude for their support. On November 16 at 5:30 PM, a celebratory performance by the Spanish Mariemma Royal Conservatory Dance Troupe added to the festive atmosphere, delighting the audience at the Santa María Sports Hall.

Notably, Kim Young-ki was honored with the Moran Medal of the Order of Civil Merit in recognition of his role as President of the Castilla-La Mancha Taekwondo Association and his contributions to promoting Taekwondo internationally.
